Theophylact of Ohrid
One of the most outstanding commentators of the Gospels, Theophylact is almost always represented in a frontal standing posture, or a torso within a medallion. He is presented as an elderly man, dressed in liturgical bishop vestments, wearing a mitre. More often than not, he is showing the onlooker a shut codex, as a reference to his work “The Explanation of the Gospels”.
