Panakranta
One of the Theotokos iconographical representations, Panakranta, meaning the All Mercifull, is always depicted seated on a Byzantine royal majestic throne. The Virgin's figure must look stately and austere, suggesting the Basilisa posture in order to stress upon her unique perfection in purity among those born on earth, but also symbolizing her status of Queen of Heaven (Regina Coeli). This is an iconographic variant of Panakranta in which the royal insignia are more numerous and are supported by the angelic orders worshipping Her.
The Theotokos Panakranta is represented frontally, in a blue tunic and a red mantle covering the head. The vestments and their colors are traditionally acknowledged to all the postures of Marian iconography. The Infant Jesus is hold facing the viewer, supported by the Virgin's arms, either standing or seated on the Virgin's lap, while blessing with his right hand, He may keep a rolled-up scroll in his left hand. Sometimes the characters are shown only bust but the traditional posture is that of a whole body representation.
In more elaborate variants, either standing or within a medallion, saints or angels, even patrons or mere believers may appear on each side of the throne.
